Softball like most sports relies heavily on the support of its volunteer work force to support
the running of competitions, maintaining facilities and grounds.
There are many and varied volunteer positions available, some with a minimal commitment and
others where the commitment would be over the playing season and beyond.
Listed below are brief "position descriptions" and if you have an interest in taking on a
role as a volunteer, we would love to hear from you. If you would like further

VOLUNTEER JOB DESCRIPTIONS
Casual Labour support 6 Volunteers
When 20th September to 31st March
Where Ellis Park
Skills required Physical fitness and ability to lift fencing panels etc.
Support Grounds man & Facilities chairperson
Pre season 8 hours
Erect backstop and outfield fencing on Diamonds One and Six
Post Season 8 hours
Removal and storage of same at the seasons end
Maximum of once weekly 1 hour
Wednesday 5pm – 6pm
Relocating back stop fences on Diamonds two, three, four & five as
required but with a maximum of once weekly.
Competition Support - T.Ball Grade 4 Juniors 4 Volunteers
When 14th October - 16th December
10th February - 31st March
Where Bathgate Park
Skills required Ability to communicate with Coaches, parents etc.
Support Junior Membership committee
Assist with Rules interpretation and any disputes that may arise
Assisting with the correct implementation of rules
Distributing any relevant information
Encouraging participation
Providing contact details of administration and development coach
Each competition day 2 Hours
Competition Support - Grade 3 Juniors 2 Volunteers
When 14th October - 16th December
10th February - 31st March
Where Ellis Park

Tuck Shop 4 Volunteers

The tuck shop is open from 9am – 12.00pm each competition Saturday
Selling wrapped confectionery, chips, tea, coffee and soft drinks.
Remove rubbish and waste products each day.
Team scorecards are collected & checked if time permits
Coaches requests for game times, grading etc. are noted
Stock-take at the end of each day
Each competition day 1 or 2 hours
Tuck Shop 4 Volunteers

grade games played on Wednesday evening and Saturday afternoon and Representative games as per the annual fixtures calendar
Umpires

Skills required Physical fitness and ability to lift fencing panels etc.
Ability to operate 4wd Quad bike & trailer
Support Grounds man & Executive Officer
Training will be provided
1. Assist with the transporting al all equipment required from Ellis Park to Hancock Park.
2. Install temporary fencing on main diamond
3. Install Backstop nets on each diamond.
4. Assist with diamond marking as required.
5. Securing all playing equipment to the required safety standard
(bases, backstop nets, pitching mats etc.) Remove and store bases and pitching mats at the end of each day
6. Ensure seating ( team benches ) are on each playing field before play
begins, remove and store at the end of each day.
7. Check at the completion of each game and maintain a consistent surface
in the batters box, pitching circle and base surrounds on all diamonds.
Fill and compact as required.
8. Assist the grounds man as required
9. Assist with transporting all equipment to be returned to Ellis Park
Tournament Secretary 1 Volunteer
When 12th January 2007 2 hours
13th – 16th January 2007 10 hours
Where Hancock Park
Skills required Good communication skills
Ability to relate well to team players, coaches & Managers
Ability to maintain accurate records
Represent OSA in a positive manner
Support Executive Officer
Training will be provided
1. Attend Managers meeting and assist E.O.
2. Issue return schedules etc. to team managers and assist
with their completion to the satisfaction of the SNZ Board
Representative.
3. Over see the taking of the toss with team managers prior to all games
4. Issue match balls to team managers
5. Collect team sheets from team managers and distribute to opposition
team managers and game scorers.
6. Collect match balls at the completion of games.
7. Record game scores on points tables
8. Assist in the production of a daily newsletter and distribute to all
team managers.
9. Manage the sales of tournament programmes.
10. Assist with the roster, stock and banking for the tuck shop
11. Collect and place orders for tournament T shirts as required.
12. Assist the SNZ Board representative as may be required.
13. Assist with the production of “participation” “Runner – up “ “Championship” and
”Tournament Team” certificates.
14. Assist in the preparation of Prize giving ceremony as required.
